12 deeds seized from Partha’s house: ED; Questioning in presence of aide soon

Twelve deeds were seized from the residence of Bengal industry minister Partha Chatterjee, according to ED’s seizure list ET has seen. Five of the deeds were registered in the name of Echhay Entertainment, six in the name of Chatterjee’s aide Arpita Mukherjee and one in the name of Sentry Engineering, in which Chatterjee is a director.

Chatterjee was brought back to the CGO Complex in Kolkata from Bhubaneswar early Tuesday morning for interrogation. Mukherjee had been at the CGO Complex office lock up since her arrest last Saturday. ED interrogated the two separately on the number of properties and investments and source of the ₹21.90 crore cash and foreign currencies seized from Mukherjee’s residence.

Apart from the deeds, ED’s list said that it seized copy of chart related to proposed teacher’s postings, documents on transfers, candidates’ admit cards, documents related to revised results of TET 2012, copy of chart relating to revised proposed teachers’ posting and copy paper relating to committee of higher authority of WBSSC, hard disks and 20 mobile phones.

ED is trying to find links of Sentry Engineering and Echhay Entertainment’s with Chatterjee and Mukherjee. During the probe, Sentry Engineering’s registered office was found to be in the housing complex where Mukherjee resided. According to a person who did not wish to be named, ED asked Chatterjee details about the teachers recruitment, such as who created the merit list, who formed the advisory committee, who decided on recruitment, on the source of money, if middle men were involved and how ‘documents were found in Mukherjee’s house’. Chatterjee reportedly answered, “I do not know” or “I don’t remember”. Dissatisfied with his replies, ED officials plan to question Chatterjee in the presence of Mukherjee, who has been ‘giving information’ to her interrogators.

ED’s seizure list also mentions a black diary of the Department of Higher Education and School Education ‘seized from Mukherjee’s residence’. The 40-page diary as ‘codes and links’ with WBSSC recruitment scam, according to a person who did not wished to be named. ED has requisitioned the services of decode experts.
