Zoya Akhtar’s ‘The Archies’ teaser will take you back to the 60’s era
Zoya Akhtar’s much-awaited Netflix movie, ‘The Archies’ is nothing short of a time travel for viewers and a chance for Archies comic fans to enjoy the story with an Indian touch. The movie teaser was launched at Netflix’s live global event ‘Tudum’ with an audience of over 10,000 cheering on the ground in Sao Paulo, Brazil, late Saturday night.
The movie’s dominating elements of rock n’ roll, friends, love, and more were reflected in the trailer of the Zoya Akhtar-directed “The Archies”, the live-action musical based on the characters of the popular American comics of the same name.
The movie is billed as a coming-of-age story that will introduce the teenagers of Riverdale, the fictional hill station to a new generation in India, the streamer said.
the movie teaser was shared by director Zoya Akhtar who captioned it as “Are you ready to go back in time? Welcome to the Archies”. After the launch of the first look, the lead cast of the movie was introduced on stage by Maitreyi Ramakrishnan from the popular Netflix series “Never Have I Ever”.
The Archies movie is studded with star kids and other talented artists. In the movie, Dot is cast as Ethel Muggs, Agastya Nanda as Archie Andrews, Khushi Kapoor as Betty Cooper, Mihir Ahuja as Jughead Jones, Suhana Khan as Veronica Lodge, Vedang Raina as Reggie Mantle and Yuvraj Menda as Dilton Doiley. The star cast took to the stage to perform the song ‘Sunoh’
Expressing her happiness on the release of the trailer at a global event, Zoya Akhtar said that it is nothing short of “awesome” to be in Sao Paulo for the first look of “The Archies”.
“There are local Brazilian fans and people from across the world virtually tuning in for the show. We are so far away from home and yet receiving the loudest cheers which just reminds us that music, love, and friendship are universal and have no barriers,” Zoya Akhtar said in a statement.
She also said that the screening of a movie trailer which is an Indian adaptation of the famous Archies Comics, in Brazil shows the global reach of Netflix. And reflects the idea of the fluidity of stories which can come from anywhere and go everywhere.
“I am extremely excited for audiences to step into Riverdale in the 60s, meet the young Anglo-Indian kids on the block, and groove with The Archies gang,” the filmmaker said in a statement.
The movie is shot on the theme of 1964 and is a coming-of-age musical following the lives of Riverdale’s favourite set of teenagers-Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Reggie, Ethel, and Dilton.
The movie is also a debut of Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan, and Sridevi and film producer Boney Kapoor’s daughter Khushi Kapoor. Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda is also entering the industry with the movie. The movie is produced by Netflix India, Tiger Baby, Archie Comics, and Graphic India. The release date of the movie is yet to be announced.
