Zazie Beetz’s Guide to Face Painting, From Fresh Blush to Artful Eyeliner
For Zazie Beetz, the Emmy-nominated star of the FX series Atlanta, there’s one constant in life—no matter her call time: “I don’t care how late it is; I don’t care how tired I am; I wash my face,” says the 30-year-old, who begins her days with a simple three-step skin-care regimen (cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF) that leaves her with ample time to get creative above the neck.
“Everyday is kind of different,” Beetz notes of her trial-and-error makeup equation, which, in today’s case, translates to a fast, freeform shape at eye level. After prepping her complexion with a combination of Fenty primer (a recent game-changing addition to her arsenal) and Charlotte Tilbury foundation, she reaches for a violet liquid liner from Wet n Wild, which she paints just above her lid in an elongated arc shape and locks into place with a similarly-colored powder. “It feels like a canvas,” she explains, as she picks up a YSL lip pencil, which she traces just above her pout. “For me, makeup is like, Oh, I get to draw on my face!” A teeny heart etched onto the crest of her cheekbone provides the perfect finishing, fanciful flourish.
