‘You just like the attention’: Backlash over vegan activist protest

A vegan activist who stormed a livestock event in Perth has copped backlash over the stunt.

A vegan activist has copped backlash after uploading footage of herself storming into a livestock event in Perth and chanting in front of unimpressed onlookers.

Tash Peterson was filmed staging the dramatic protest during the livestock event at Perth’s Royal Show on Tuesday.

Ms Peterson later uploaded footage of the protest to her Facebook page, claiming the livestock event “celebrates and glamorises animal abuse, slavery and murder.”

She climbed through a fence before holding up a protest sign in front of a crowd of onlookers.

“These gentle and innocent beings are going to be brutally murdered and shot in the head,” she said to the unimpressed crowd.

“They’re just as gentle and loving as beloved dogs and cats.”

A man then stepped in and was filmed wrestling her out of the pen.

While some followers applauded Ms Peterson, others criticised her over the stunt.

On Thursday night, she announced on Instagram that the police had paid her a visit and informed her the vet hosting the livestock show had placed a restraining order upon her.

“You were putting the cows in danger and could have spooked them where they would attack you and you go to hospital,” one person wrote on her Instagram page.

“Go after the commercial big corporation meat industry, they are more dangerous than who you go after.

“You’re not actually helping any animal. You just like the attention.

“It’s really sad, I feel sorry for you.”

Another person said: “There’s such thing as peaceful protesting and then there’s such thing as aggressive protesting, you’re the aggressive protester in this case.”

“You could have lawfully protested standing on the outside of the fence in front of the viewers and yet you choose to enter the yard, putting not only yourself in danger but further stressing the animals,” a third wrote.

Ms Peterson hit back on Thursday with an unapologetic message.

“People have suddenly become concerned for the animals when I entered the ring, but aren’t concerned when they pay people to send them to murder factories to be bolt gunned in the brain and have their throats slit,” she wrote.

Ms Peterson is due to appear in court on October 5 on a disorderly conduct charge after she entered Louis Vuitton’s Perth store semi-naked and smeared in blood.
