You don’t need a fourth dose of Covishield vaccine, says study – Times of India

According to a study done by the state-run Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research in Karnataka, neutralising antibodies were significantly present in all of the participants who had received the booster dose of the Covishield vaccination.
All 350 healthcare personnel evaluated in the state-run Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research’s study to evaluate the immunological status of those who had received the booster dose of Covishield vaccination showed a considerable presence of neutralising antibodies. The investigation came to the conclusion that a fourth dose of the vaccination wasn’t necessary.

Doctors, nurses, technicians, ward assistants, and other office personnel made comprised the evaluated group.
The research discovered that all of the participants—148 men (42%) and 202 women (58%) ranging in age from 19 to 60 years—displayed a significant presence of neutralising antibodies.

According to Dr. CN Manjunath, director of the Bengaluru institute, “The existence of neutralising antibodies implies persisting antibody levels even 12 months after the booster dose.”

“It is essential to evaluate our preparedness in terms of healthcare resources, manpower, and infrastructure as well as understand the dynamics of immunity in the community so that public health policies can be tailored to suit our population in light of the recent pandemic threat with new variants of concern, such as BF.7 and the XBB variant of Omicron in some parts of the world. The question of whether to have the second booster shot or the fourth dosage of the vaccination was one that many medical professionals and members of the public frequently asked”, according to Dr. CN Manjunath.

“Adequate neutralising antibodies were present in 99.4% of the healthcare personnel. This study demonstrates that a fourth dose of the vaccination is not necessary. It emphasises even more the need for individuals who haven’t taken the booster dose to do so,”he said.
