Yellowjackets Star Christina Ricci Embraced Slinky Glamour at the Emmys
In her hit Showtime series Yellowjackets, Christina Ricci’s character Misty—an eccentric, cunning nurse—sports a wardrobe that’s far from glamorous. (Think: Lots of scrubs.) So for this week’s 2022 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, it seemed as if Ricci was ready to go all in with the glitz.
After all, she was nominated for the role in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category—she needed a strong red carpet look that shined, just like her performance on the show. “My Emmy’s night was truly wonderful. There were so many peers I loved seeing and catching up with,” Ricci tells Vogue. “There were also actors who I have long long been a fan of, and that I finally had the chance to meet. I have so much gratitude for the love of my series Yellowjackets, and my character Misty.”
Working with stylist Alexandra Mandelkorn, Ricci’s sparkling look for the evening included a slinky, sequined sleeveless dress from Fendi’s fall 2022 couture collection (it even had the sequined evening bag to match!). Turns out, there’s a special connection between Ricci and Fendi’s creative director, Kim Jones: He’s a close friend and godfather to Ricci’s daughter. “It was really special for me to wear one of [Jones’s] creations,” Ricci says. “One of the most unique things about this dress is the ombre effect it, which Fendi accomplished by heat rolling the sequins. That made the dress super light. It may look like the dress is beaded, which would have made it heavy, but it was so light because of what they did with the sequins.”
She accessorized the disco ball-like dress with a pair of bronze strappy Stuart Weitzman heels, and jewelry by the labels Jessica McCormack and Reza. For glam, makeup artist Allan Avendano and hairstylist Mark Hampton further leaned into a party-ready Studio 54 vibe. Hampton perfected the sleek bob, while Avendano went for a sultry eye.
Now that the Emmys spectacle is over, Ricci is back to work on season two of Yellowjackets. As for what we can expect next? “I look for projects that dive into the interesting parts of humans and their nuances and behaviors—and I got to do that with Misty,” says Ricci. “The casting and writing drew me in, a character like Misty—who leaves the audience guessing who she is and what she’ll do next—challenges me and makes things fun and cool. For season two, you’ll have to watch to find out.”
