Yami Gautam: Playing challenging characters is essential to evolve and grow as an artiste – Exclusive – Times of India
Yami feels there’s more than one way of portraying any character. Talking specifically about portraying professionals as an actor, she says, “In life there might be so many journalists or so many people from different professions. There is so much diversity in professions. We are all different. Acting is a craft which allows you to experience the beauty of these multiple professions. This is why I feel this character is very different from my previous ones.”
She has played a visually impaired person, a Indian airforce pilot, a teacher and a cop before. The variety of roles are what excites her the most. Yami says, “My character Vidhi (from LOST) is different from all the characters that I have portrayed in the past. Right from my first film Vicky Donor to Kaabil, URI, Bala, A Thursday and Dasvi, all those characters are all very different from each other. Being an actor, exploring multifarious characters is the most challenging and essential experience to evolve and grow as an artiste.”
On the subject of taking up challenges and portraying varied characters, Yami says, “One needs to divulge in spaces and territories which one is unfamiliar with and learn on the go. You must work with different directors and up your ante with every new character you get a chance to portray.”
LOST features Yami investigating a missing person’s case and theme deals with doing what’s right over what’s true. The movie will release on Zee5 tomorrow.
