WWE legend Jerry Lawler is OUT of ICU after suffering a ‘massive stroke’ with ‘The King’ set to return to his home for rehabilitation despite ‘limited speech and cognitive skills’
WWE legend Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler is recovering well from a ‘massive stroke’ earlier this week and is now out of ICU.
A post on his Instagram Thursday afternoon, by his fiancee Lauryn McBride, revealed ‘The King’ will soon be back in the comfort of his own home.
‘Jerry is out of ICU and will return to his Florida home for outpatient rehab for his limited speech and cognitive skills. Doctors hopeful for full recovery & Jerry is looking forward to returning to his fans very soon. -Lauryn #LongLiveTheKing.’
Lawler was pictured in a Cleveland Browns t-shirt and the same Royal Rumble hat he has had on throughout his time in the hospital.
The positive news follows a statement Wednesday which said while his speech is ‘limited’ he is anticipated to make ‘a full recovery.’

‘Update on Jerry: After suffering a massive Stroke Monday. He is now recovering in a Fort Myers, FL hospital,’ it read.
‘His speech is limited, but with rehabilitation will regain a full recovery. He thanks everyone for the continued prayers and will be back in the near future.’
‘The King’ was pictured in a WWE Royal Rumble cap alongside legendary wrestling manager, Jimmy Hart.
The 73-year-old was taken ill on Monday afternoon, after suffering a stroke at his home in Fort Myers, near Cape Coral, according to PWInsider.
Lawler has suffered serious health issues in the past, first in 2012 when he had a heart attack while providing commentary on an episode of ‘Monday Night Raw.’
Just 10 minutes prior to the medical emergency, he was participating in a tag-team match against CM Punk and Ziggler along with Randy Orton.
Ziggler had frequently hit Lawler in the chest with his elbows, though Lawler and Orton ended up winning the match.
‘The King’ also suffered a stroke at his home in Memphis in March 2018. He later claimed that he couldn’t speak for three days and only regained speech when he eventually woke up in hospital.

A statement on Lawler’s Twitter Wednesday revealed he should eventually be back to normal
That year, he was able to make all of his appearances during WrestleMania 34 weekend in New Orleans and was even cleared to wrestle.
Lawler’s been involved in WWE wrestling for more than 50 years, starting in the ring in 1970 in Memphis, his hometown. He’s come in and out of retirement but is still an independent wrestler in his 70s.
His most recent match was against Scott Steiner, 60, last year but it ended in a no-contest.
