In an emailed statement, Wipro, which has four offices including its global headquarters in the city, said there has been no impact on its business and operations.
Bengaluru, the tech capital of India, is home to around 5,500 IT companies, startups and global capability centres. After the city witnessed the wettest August since 1998, Monday saw record single-day rainfall in a September month since 1998.
“Due to heavy rainfall in Bangalore, Wipro has advised its employees to work from home today. Business Continuity Plans have been invoked and there has been no disruption to business. We are closely monitoring the situation,” said the company spokesperson.

India’s software exports were estimated around $170 billion last fiscal with Karnataka contributing around 40% of that pie. The city’s Outer Ring Road or IT corridor stretch has seen the worst impact.

“Companies have been advised to encourage WFH to ensure roads are not jammed and allow for emergency personnel to reach areas that need help,” said Krishna Kumar Gowda, general manager, Outer Ring Round Companies Association. “ORRCA is engaged with respective authorities to put short, medium and long term strategies to resolve the infra issues. Right now, our focus is on supporting rescue efforts that authorities are busy with.”
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai cited “unprecedented rainfall and overflowing” water bodies for the deluge but assured his government’s commitment to restore normalcy.
He also faulted the “maladministration” of the previous Congress governments for the present situation of the city, known as India’s IT hub, and insisted only two zones bore the brunt of rains although a picture was being painted as if entire Bengaluru was struggling. A lot of encroachments are also being cleared and the government had allocated Rs 1,500 crore for development of stormwater drains, he added.
