Wipro Asks Freshers To Pass Another Assessment | India Business News – Times of India

BENGALURU: Wipro has told all freshers, including those who have undergone training under its Velocity programme, that they will have to complete another training programme, called Project Readiness Programme (PRP), and clear the associated assessment with a minimum of 60% marks to remain in the company. These candidates were issued offer letters last year, and joined the company in March this year.
In the PRP reference document, Wipro tells candidates, “Failure to secure 60% post final supplementary attempt will lead to separation action with immediate effect through HR.” The document says even if they are allocated a project before completing the course, special permission will be required before taking up the project. IT employees union Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) called the move unjust and unethical.
“In March 2022, before starting the unpaid Velocity training of Wipro, the company’s HR department assured the employees that if they successfully completed the training, they would not have to undergo training again in the company. However, after joining the company on 30th March 2023, Wipro suddenly changed its stance and said that the employees have to go through training again,” NITES president Harpreet Singh Saluja said in a statement.
Among these freshers are also those who had accepted the company’s offer of Rs 3.5 lakh a year in compensation, even though the original promise was that those clearing the Velocity assessment would receive Rs 6.5 lakh a year. The company recently had said those keen on joining projects immediately should take the Rs 3.5 lakh offer. In response to TOI’s queries on the matter, Wipro said it places immense value on seeing its talent grow and succeed.
“The Project Readiness Programme is a part of our routine onboarding process and is designed to ensure that our next gen associates are assigned to the right client projects and have the most up-to-date skillset to make an immediate impact,” it said.
