Will the makers of ‘Prithviraj’ change the title after Karni Sena’s demand? Here’s the truth – Exclusive! – Times of India

Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chhillar’s film ‘Prithviraj’ has already had its share of controversy over the title with Karni Sena protesting against it. Some members of the Karni Sena even met the makers of the film. They have now claimed that the makers may change the title as per their demands. Surjeet Singh Rathore of the youth wing of the organisation claimed, “We met the makers of the film and they have told us they will change the title of the film. A demand we have been making for nearly eight months now.”

On the other hand, the makers have maintained that they would not change the title of ‘Prithviraj’. Now it remains to be seen if the makers will give into the pressure from the Karni Sena. A source close to the project said to ETimes, “The demands of the Karni Sena will not stand in the court of law and the producers are in no mood to buckle under the pressure of the Karni Sena.”

The Karni Sena has in the past forced filmmakers to make changes according to them and have even asked for the screenings of the films that are set in Rajasthan and have Rajput characters in them.

“There have been several films made of great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Dr Ambedkar and for that matter even Prithviraj Chauhan earlier, but nowhere have they titled the film as Mahatma Gandhi or Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar or Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan, so the demand is uncalled for,” added the source.

‘Prithviraj’ is based on the life of Rajput king Prithviraj Chauhan with the title role being played by Akshay Kumar, accompanied by Manushi Chhillar as Samyukta. Directed by Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the film is being produced by Aditya Chopra and slated for release on January 21.
