Will ‘OMG 2’ release in theatres or on OTT? Producers will decide once Akshay Kumar returns to India – Exclusive – Times of India

The makers of OMG 2 (the spiritual sequel of ‘OMG: Oh My God!’) are still contemplating about the release of their film which features Akshay Kumar in the lead. The argument is whether the film should release in theatres or do the producers opt for a safer strategy and release the film on an OTT platform. A few weeks ago, there were reports that suggested OMG2 was going to release on OTT with platforms like Voot and Jio Cinema being the forerunners. But there has been no confirmation on this from the film’s producers.

A source close to the film informs ETimes, “The makers of OMG2 have not decided on the release medium yet. But one thing is for sure. They are still figuring out the permutations. The decision to go for a straight to OTT release over a theatrical run cannot be taken without consulting the film’s star and co-producer Akshay Kumar. Since Akshay has been busy with the shoot of Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan in Scotland and other foreign locations, this decision of OMG2’s release has been on the hold. The team will convene once Akshay is back in Mumbai and only then will the way ahead be formalised.”

Oh! My God 2 is directed by Amit Rai and the story is going to talk about the education system in India and it will specifically address adult education as well. The source has also reveals that the subject of the film is very relevant and any decision on the release strategy has to account for the fact that this film deserves a wide audience, especially from B and C centres.
