Will Marcus Stoinis be fit for first Qualifier against CSK? DC skipper Rishabh Pant says THIS
Delhi Capitals (DC) may have qualified for the playoffs topping the points table in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), however, they are still sweating the fitness of all-rounder Marcus Stoinis. Stoinis suffered a tweak in his hamstring in DC’s first game of the second half of the tournament against the Sunrisers Hyderabad and hasn’t featured since.
The Capitals’ balance was disrupted due to Stoinis’ injury and they have played the likes of Lalit Yadav in a couple of games, then Steve Smith in the next two games at Sharjah, followed by seam bowling all-rounder Ripal Patel in the final two games of the league stage, but haven’t got the desired results.
As they are set to take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the first Qualifier, the availability of Stoinis will be a big boost for the table-toppers, depending upon his fitness.
Asked about the inclusion of Ripal Patel in the playing XI and Stoinis’ fitness status after his side’s loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore, skipper Rishabh Pant said, “Ripal is a promising youngster, and we were already qualified so we thought we gonna try someone because Stoinis was injured.
“Hopefully he will be in for the next game, so we thought we gonna give Ripal chance and see how it goes,” Pant further said.
Delhi Capitals received a heartbreak on Friday evening as RCB chased down 165 on the final ball of the match needing five runs to win and wicket-keeper batter KS Bharat hit a six off a full toss bowled by Avesh Khan.
