Wild’s Kaprizov given match penalty for high-stick on Kings’ Doughty

Minnesota Wild star Kirill Kaprizov was handed a match penalty and ejected on Tuesday for a vicious cross-check to the chin of Los Angeles Kings defenceman Drew Doughty during the second period of the teams’ matchup.

The penalty means Kaprizov is suspended one game, pending review, which would result in the winger missing Wednesday’s contest in Anaheim against the Ducks.

The play was ruled as intent to injure, a description many Wild fans did not agree with.

Doughty waved goodbye to Kaprizov after the penalty was called.

Doughty had hit Kaprizov several times in the leadup to the play, which resulted in the ejection.

The Kings ended up winning 1-0, with Los Angeles getting four power plays to Minnesota’s one.

The officiating didn’t please Wild coach Dean Evason, per The Athletic’s Joe Smith.

Kaprizov has eight goals and five assists in 11 games this season.
