‘Who is Baba Bageshwar?’: Nitish Kumar, Lalu Prasad on ‘Hindu Rashtra’ remark
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar lashed out at controversial godman Dhirendra Shastri on Tuesday after the latter claimed that the fire for a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ would be be ignited in Bihar. RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav also dismissed the popular godman wondering if was ‘even a Baba’.
“…Were all those who are saying this, born during the freedom struggle?… What is the need of saying this? Follow any religion you want. But proposals for renaming are surprising. Is that even possible?” the chief minister told reporters in Patna.
Bageshwar Baba arrived in the Bihar capital on Saturday morning and was received at the airport by a large number of supporters including prominent BJP leaders like Union Minister Giriraj Singh and singer-turned-politician Manoj Tiwari. The the 20-something godman has repeately made headlines for a multitude of controversial reasons in recent weeks.
Following his reception, Tiwari had chosen to drive Bageshwar Baba’s car. Meanwhile, Singh lashed out in his trademark style at the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ for opposing the godman’s visit “to appease its own vote bank”.
The godman – also known as Dhirendra Shastri – had arrived for a five-day congregation in Patna’s Naubatpur. Reports citing the organisers indicated that more than three lakh devotees had reached the venue on Sunday.
“What wrong has the Baba done in advocating a Hindu Rashtra? Where will the Hindus go if they do not find a voice in their own homeland? The Hindus account for 80 per cent of the population and with the changes in demography, they stare at a grim future,” Giriraj Singh had asked.
