Who, Exactly, Is Julia Fox? 5 Things to Know About the ‘Uncut Gems’ Star
It’s always news when two celebrities step out together, whether it’s Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum twinning or Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly looking like mall goths at the Billboard Music Awards. The most recent star pair to capture the public imagination, though, is Kanye West and Uncut Gems star Julia Fox, who ate at Carbone in both Miami and New York less than a week into the new year.
One thing we can be sure of is that Carmela Soprano would approve of this Italian-food-based courtship—but what else do we know about Fox, the Uncut Gems star and all-around It girl who looks like Debi Mazar crossed with Jessica Rabbit, talks like a Long Island pageant queen who’s spent more than a little time hanging out with the skaters in Dimes Square (to be clear, that’s a huge compliment), and seems to have captured West’s heart? Read on to learn more about who she is and what makes her tick.
No, seriously, Carmela Soprano would love her.
Fox was born near Milan to an Italian mother and American father, and upon moving to New York, she worked in—among other places—a shoe store and a pastry shop. It’s giving Ferrante novel!
She was discovered, so to speak, in the most downtown New York way possible.
Fox met the Safdie brothers, who went on to cast her as Julia De Fiore in the 2019 gambling thriller Uncut Gems, at the perennially hip cafe Jack’s Wife Freda in SoHo. No word on what she was eating at the time, but I choose to believe it was the green shakshuka.
Her art isn’t for the faint of heart.
For a 2017 gallery show, “R.I.P. Julia Fox,” Fox claimed to have used her own blood on her canvases, and her two photography books —2015’s Symptomatic of a Relationship Gone Sour: Heartburn/Nausea and 2016’s PTSD—quickly became status items on the cool-kid art scene. I mean, don’t we all kind of want to own a book of Julia Fox’s photography?
Her estranged husband is a pilot.
Fox wed Peter Artemiev, a Brooklyn-based private pilot, in 2018, and the two share a nearly one-year-old son, Valentino.
I think about her “Howie” tattoo from Uncut Gems nearly every day.
That’s all.
