White Sox to reinstate closer Hendriks after journey back from cancer treatment
The Chicago White Sox will reinstate all-star closer Liam Hendriks from the injured list and expect to have him back in the bullpen for Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels.
It is the final step in Hendriks’ long journey back to the White Sox after undergoing treatment for Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“Your journey is an inspiration. We couldn’t be more proud. Welcome back Liam Hendriks,” the White Sox posted on their Twitter account Sunday evening.
Hendriks announced his diagnosis in January and completed his final round of chemotherapy on April 3rd. The 34-year-old made six appearances with Triple-A Charlotte, allowing six earned runs in five innings.
Hendriks threw live batting practice while traveling with the team in Detroit.
A three-time All-Star, Hendriks was third in the majors with 37 saves and made his third All-Star team last season. The Australian led the AL with a career-high 38 saves in 2021, after leaving Oakland to sign a $54 million, three-year contract with the White Sox.
Hendriks has 115 saves and a 3.81 ERA over 12 seasons with Minnesota, Toronto, Kansas City, Oakland and Chicago.
