When Malaika Arora said Salman Khan didn’t make her a star, she’s a self-made woman – Times of India

Birthday girl Malaika Arora looks as graceful and fit as ever. There’s no doubt that she is aging like fine wine. Who can forget her iconic dance sequence on the top of a train with Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Dil Se’? Since then, Malaika has come a long way cementing her place as one of the most popular reality show judges and Bollywood’s certified fashionista. However, it wasn’t a cakewalk for her as she had to suffer a lot for the ‘item girl’ tag that was once tagged with her name.

Malaika was even trolled for her ‘Khan’ surname once as many used to say since she was married to Arbaaz Khan and being a part of the Khan family she got undue advantages. However, way back in 2008, she had opened up on this and insisted that it’s not Salman Khan who made her a star. She has achieved everything on her own.

Back in 2008, during an interview, Malaika Arora responded to Rakhi Sawant’s comment that reportedly claimed that Malaika isn’t an ‘item girl’ for her connection with Salman Khan. Malaika had said if that was the case then she would be in every Salman film and in every special appearance song Salman does. Malaika also said Salman Khan hasn’t made her and she’s a self-made woman.

In that interview, the 48-year-old also addressed rumours that claimed she was not happy with Salman Khan and family for not backing up Arbaaz Khan’s career. She insisted that the Khan brothers are very close-knit but one has to take his career decisions on his own.
