When Dimple Khanna said that she knew her marriage with Rajesh Khanna won’t work the moment she stepped into his house – Times of India

Dimple Kapadia made her film debut with ‘Bobby’ in 1973, but she also got married to Rajesh Khanna in the same year, even before the release of her debut film. She was 16 and he was almost twice her age. She also announced that she wouldn’t continue her career after getting married. However, she made a comeback in the year 1985 with ‘Saagar’ and that’s when she spoke about her personal life.
The actress revealed in an interview that she knew her marriage won’t work the moment she stepped into his house. She had said that she came to know him precisely seven days before the marriage. They were going together to Ahmedabad for a show on a chartered flight when Rajesh sat next to Dimple and didn’t utter a word. But just as the flight was about to land, he turned towards her, looked into her eyes and told Dimple that he wanted to marry her. But she confessed that the happiness and life in their house came to an end the day Rajesh and she got married.

Reportedly, Khanna had banned Dimple from acting, even though she was offered Rs 5 lakh per project after a hit film like ‘Bobby’. The actress confessed that she was too young to realise the importance of ‘Bobby’ in her career, but from the day she entered his house, ‘Ashirwad’, she somehow knew that their marriage won’t work. She further revealed that their marriage was definitely not based on equality. She had left him in 1982 and moved to her parents’ house. By then, the actress had two daughters with him – Twinkle and Rinke Khanna.
