WhatsApp may stop users from taking screenshots of these messages – Times of India

WhatsApp is testing a new tool in beta that will prevent users from taking screenshots of media that are marked as View Once content. This privacy tool was announced by Mark Zuckerberg in August and is expected to make View Once images and videos more secure. According to a tweet by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has started rolling out a new beta version 2.22.22.3 for the instant messaging app on Android.

New feature for WhatsApp View Once media: Availability
The View Once content feature is currently available to a limited number of beta testers and the company has not shared any official details about the release date of the stable version of this tool. The feature that lets you block taking screenshots of the View Once images is expected to reach users soon.

How will this feature work
As per the report, the new tool blocks users from capturing screenshots and screen recordings of images and videos that are marked as View Once. The tweet also includes images of the message that the app shows when someone tries to take a screenshot of View Once images.
The new beta version of the Android app shows a toast message that says: “Can’t take screenshots due to security policy” whenever someone tries taking a screenshot of these marked images.

Even if someone successfully bypasses the security measures, the captured screenshot or the video recorded from the screen will reportedly appear black. However, it is important to note that this new feature still doesn’t notify the sender of the View Once image or video and recipients can easily take a snap of these videos and images with a secondary device.
