WhatsApp may soon rollout report status feature – Times of India

WhatsApp recently introduced the Accidental Delete feature which is aimed at protecting users in tricky situations wherein they have sent a message to the wrong person or group and accidentally clicked on ‘Delete for me’ instead of ‘Delete for everyone’. Now, it appears that WhatsApp is working on yet another useful feature. The Meta-owned app is reportedly working on a new feature which will enable users to report status updates.

WABetaInfo, the Twitter account which tracks changes in WhatsApp build, has revealed that the popular messaging app will soon enable users to report status updates. With this upcoming feature, WhatsApp aims to keep the platform safe. The feature is presently in the testing phase on WhatsApp Desktop beta.

Presently, WhatsApp allows users to report messages and contacts to WhatsApp in case they think there is a violation of their Terms of Service. When you report a contact, the last 5 messages in the conversation are forwarded to WhatsApp, but you can also choose to report specific messages.
WABetaInfo also shared a screenshot of the upcoming feature revealing the possibility to report a status update right within a new menu in the status section. “Note that this feature does not break end-to-end encryption, as claimed by ProPublica last year due to misunderstanding since messages, voice calls, media, location sharing, calls, and status updates, are protected by the end-to-end encryption protocol on all of your devices: it means that nobody, not even WhatsApp and Meta, can see the content of your messages and listen to your private calls, but it is important to bring a report option to keep the platform and other people safe,” adds the report.
The report further adds that the feature is in the developmental stage and is expected to soon release for WhatsApp Desktop users.
