WhatsApp is testing another new file sharing feature – Times of India
WhatsApp is releasing a new file sharing feature that will show users an estimated time needed to download a file to their devices or upload it to the servers. The Facebook-owned messaging platform has included this feature in the latest beta version updates for Android, iOS, Web and Desktop.
As per a WABetaInfo report, this feature will enable users to view the estimated time need to share a file — both while uploading and downloading. Previously, this feature was released on WhatsApp Desktop, later on, it was rolled out to some beta testers on Android and iOS.
As WhatsApp is releasing this feature only to some beta testers if you are unable to find this feature, it means that the option hasn’t yet been rolled out for your account. Users who are unable to find this feature now need to wait for a future update.
The company has recently started testing the ability to share media files up to 2GB in size to some users as well. However, this feature is still limited to users in Argentina.
How will it work?
The report also suggests that with this new update, users will be able to find a new ETA label in the chat bubble under the file name while sharing a file. This information will help users to understand the amount of time needed for the file to be uploaded from or downloaded to their device.
How will it be useful?
This feature can be very useful while sending large files on WhatsApp. Beta testers in Argentina who can share documents up to 2GB will find it particularly important. It has been rumoured that WhatsApp may increase the size of files shared by users, which is currently capped at 100MB.
