WhatsApp developing screenshot blocking feature for Android users, claims report – Times of India

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced three new privacy features for WhatsApp on Facebook earlier this month. These new features will be added to the Meta-owned instant messaging platform with upcoming updates which are — past group participants, choosing who can see you online and screenshot blocking.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, the company has recently released the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.18.16 update that has added a themed app icon to all testers on Android 13. The report adds that WhatsApp is also working on screenshot blocking for the “view-once” images and videos, which might be included with the upcoming updates.
The report states that this feature will prevent users from taking screenshots of view-once images and videos. The report has also shared an image to describe how this feature will work.

WhatsApp screenshot blocking on Android: Availability
As mentioned earlier, this feature is currently under development on WhatsApp beta for Android and will be rolled out with an upcoming update of the app.
The screenshot blocking feature was also under development on WhatsApp beta for iOS, the report claims. More details about this feature are expected to surface in the coming days.
How will this feature work
The image reveals that WhatsApp is working on a new presentation screen for the view-once files where it will be impossible for users to take screenshots of these images and videos.

However, recipients can always take a photo by using a secondary phone or camera, but the platform won’t allow them to take screenshots of the same.
Screenshots will be blocked automatically but the sender won’t receive a notification about it.
