While countless fans thought there was foul play by Boston with a center field light, it turns out there’s really nothing to see here.
There was a bit of drama in Game 5 between the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox, as play was delayed due to a strange light being displayed in center field. As soon as that happened, countless folks were ready to accuse Boston of cheating.
No one has forgotten about Alex Cora and his role in the 2017 sign-stealing scandal. With that said, things have been cleared up. After the game, Dusty Baker came out and said Cora was actually the one to point it out, and it was just a reflective tape and nothing more.
Dusty Baker cleared things up on the strange light seen in center field
“I know that Alex Cora had said something about the light out in center, and then he came over to me and said it really wasn’t a light,” Baker said via the Houston Chronicle. “It wasn’t in anybody’s eyes or point of vision or distraction. It was some reflective tape that somebody had put out there. It looked like a light shining off the lights, but I didn’t really see it. I didn’t have the angle to see it.”
Nothing to see here, folks. The fact that Cora was the one to bring it to the attention of everyone let’s you know that there was zero foul play. It was just a reflective tape and it had no impact on the contest.
In the end, Houston was able to record a monster win and the AL West team is now one victory away from getting back to the World Series. Houston can lock things up come Friday night.
