‘What is this?’: Bizarre ring walk baffles fans

The highly-anticipated trilogy fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder got off to a bizarre start, with fans left bemused by their entries.

Boxing fans have been waiting 18 months for Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder to meet again, but the highly-anticipated trilogy fight got off to a bizarre start.

The Las Vegas crowd were left waiting in anticipation after it emerged during the national anthems that Wilder was having issues with his gloves.

However, a TV presenter from inside the Wilder dressing room suggested there were no problems with the fighter’s preparation, rather the delay may simply have been an attempt to throw his opponent off his natural rhythm.

“Nothing controversial yet,” commentator Shawn Porter said of the delay.

“He’s not used to walking first. He’s done so much talking. I think the wait is his statement.”

Wilder eventually appeared for his ring walk, with the American donning a necklace and orange face mask. The outfit was considerably lighter than the one he infamously wore during last year’s bout.

He was accompanied by a rapper awkwardly lip-synching to Loaded Lux’s “Till This Day”.

But boxing fans were left in hysterics by Fury’s considerably less intimidating ring walk.

The first figure to appear was a man dressed in what appeared to be a Sparta-inspired outfit with golden chains and heavy makeup, dancing provocatively at the camera.

He then blew a horn to signal the introduction of Fury, who donned a Roman general’s armour – it looked as though it had been stolen from the set of Monty Python’s Life of Brian.

Accompanied by a group of other Roman generals, Fury waltzed towards the ring with ACDC’s classic rib rock anthem “You Shook Me All Night Long” blaring around the Las Vegas venue.

It was a bizarre start to the evening’s main event, and boxing pundits were quick to poke fun at the spectacle.

YouTube sensation Logan Paul branded it the “most insane walkout” he had ever seen.

Fury defended his heavyweight world championship belt in one of the most astonishing fights seen this millenium.

The Gypsy King had the fight stopped deep in the 11th round when he landed an uppercut that dropped Wilder to the floor for a fourth time.

The TKO victory means the Fury-Wilder rivalry is over, with Fury now cementing his legacy as an icon of the sport with his undefeated record improving to 31-0.
