West Brom and USMNT striker Daryl Dike will be out for the rest of this EFL Championship season with a torn right Achilles tendon.

The forward went to the ground just before halftime at this weekends match against Stoke City and left the former Britannia Stadium in tears.

According to a press release from the club, Dike will require surgery for a ‘full rupture’ of his right Achilles and will be out for ‘six to nine months’.

Dike has battled injuries throughout his entire tenure at the West Midlands club, but was in the midst of one of his best seasons he’s had with the Baggies. Earlier this season, he missed 20 matches due to a thigh injury.

In 25 total matches with West Brom, he’s bagged seven goals – the second best mark on the team behind summer arrival Brandon Thomas-Asante. Dike last scored for West Brom in a 1-1 draw with Cardiff City back on March 15.

Dike has missed a total of 31 matches for West Brom ever since his move to the Birmingham suburb from Orlando City SC of MLS on New Years Day of 2022.

That followed a successful loan spell at Barnsley in the 2020-21 season where he managed nine goals in 22 seasons and helped the South Yorkshire club reach the playoff.

Last month, the University of Virginia product made his first appearances for the United States Men’s National Team since 2021. He came off the bench against Grenada and started against El Salvador – swapping spots with Ricardo Pepi both times.

Dike’s last goal scoring performance for his national team came back in the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup where he bagged a brace in a 6-1 victory over Martinique.
