West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose sends out clear message on corruption
The Governor said, “The Constitution is being upheld in all matters and cooperative federalism is fostered.”
Bose clearly said on Saturday, in a press statement, that “Nobody will be allowed to take the law into their own hands and law and order will be scrupulously maintained and at the appropriate time effective and proactive intervention will be done.”
“As far as upholding of the Constitution was concerned, the order appointing Lokayukta was found to be defective in observing legal proprieties,” Bose said. The Governor has taken the stand that “he could not administer the Oath of Office to the Lokayukta as that appointment was not valid in law,” sources said. “Remedy is to have an amendment to the Act which the Government agreed to,” he observed..
“An Ordinance was proposed to be promulgated in this regard. However, since the Assembly was soon to be in session, the Ordinance was not considered appropriate and it was decided to move a Bill in the Assembly,” the statement mentioned.
Meanwhile, BJP state President Sukanta Majumdar called on Governor C V Ananda Bose at Raj Bhawan today afternoon.
Majumdar, after the meeting, said, “The Governor emphasized that corruption and violence are not appropriate.”The Governor also mentioned in the press statement about his discussion with Majumdar. “His main focus was that corruption was on the increase, law and order situation has deteriorated, the Government has been found wanting in the implementation of the MGNREGS, PMAY (G) and PMGSY and there are glaring irregularities and blatant corruption all around. That is why the Central Government was forced to hold up funds. In the upcoming panchayat elections he anticipates violence and intimidation and sought the Governor’s assurance for a free and fair election.”
