We Asked Rentrayage, Rodarte, and Imitation of Christ to Shop Fellow American Labels

Unity runs like a common thread through the American fashion industry. And this togetherness is seen and exhibited in The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s latest show, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” which shines a spotlight on our young and emerging designers. Curated by Andrew Bolton, the show also gives attention to those fashion industry mavericks who are molding and shaping the conversation around sustainability, diversity, inclusion, and transparency.

On the list of designers and labels featured in the show, you’ll find Rentrayage, Rodarte, and Imitation of Christ. It all makes for an exhibition that’s incredibly shoppable. Only a handful of the pieces displayed are by design houses that no longer exist. See that Rodarte dress? Well, you might be able to find it via a vintage dealer, or you can shop any number of Rodarte wares online. The same goes for Rentrayage and Imitation of Christ, too. It’s truly never been easier to support Costume Institute exhibition-worthy designers!

And so, Vogue thought it would be fun to ask all three of the labels to shop their fellow designers. Below, see Rentrayage, Rodarte, and Imitation of Christ’s shopping lists.

Rentrayage

At Rentrayage, founder Erin Beatty takes a waste-less approach with her collections, sourcing upcycled materials for her designs. And her designer selects bring a similar thoughtfulness to their work: B Sides, Irene Neuwirth, and Rachel Comey.

Rachel Comey Ballo fair isle wool sweater

Imitation of Christ

Tara Subkoff of Imitation of Christ is sparking conversations around sustainability. Most recently, she gathered fabrics for her latest collection from The Real Real. So it makes sense then that she pulled pieces from Collina Strada, Pamela Love, and Maria Tash.

Rodarte

Since the label’s founding, the Rodarte sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy have brought joy to the world with their sweet, slightly quirky designs, even during these uncertain times. The exhibition appropriately labels a ruffled design taken from Rodarte’s Fall 2019 collection with the word ebullience. This season they’re eyeing Peter Do, Dauphinette, and Rentrayage.
