Two things to know about me: I wear a lot of rings and I have a lot of ear piercings. So on any given day, I’ll be wearing a minimum of that. In addition to a few rings my Grandmother gave me, my usuals are Miansai’s monogrammed signet ring (my brother and I have matching) and Agmes silver stacking rings. I also leave in little huggie hoops at all times.

Of all my cherished jewelry bits, one I literally can’t take off is my dainty Catbird bracelet that I got zapped on at its Soho welding annex. The simple, twisted chain is incredibly lightweight, meaning I often forget I’m wearing it and can easily pair it with other pieces. On necklaces, I find myself reaching for two daily. Perhaps a nod to my sorority, I developed quite a penchant for pearl adornments like Rellery’s chain link choker that always adds a chic touch to any outfit. I consider “everyday jewels” as the jewelry I never take off. I wear at least two necklaces layered night and day, sun or snow—one with my daughters’ initials on it; the other, a strand of sapphire beads with my name in opals. For earrings, I have two piercings in one lobe, and three in the other. I keep stud earrings and very small huggie hoops in the second and third piercings and switch out my first piercings more often. All earrings are simple as I wear a lot of jewelry, so these pieces can’t fight for attention. For rings, the only thing I wear absolutely every day without fail is my wedding band, a thread-thin pavé diamond ring.

And I can’t forget all my favorite rings! When I was in Ireland in 2019, I got my Claddagh ring in Claddagh and haven’t taken it off since. It symbolizes love and friendship, and is still an effortlessly chic piece that I’ll wear forever.

I have been wearing my dear friend Marie-Helene de Taillac’s jewelry for years now—or at least until a burglary divested me of it a couple of years ago—because a) It always reminds me of her, and b) It always reminds me of India, a country for which I have a deep passion.
Over the years, she made me such pieces as an amazing set of rose quartz lip-shaped cufflinks and dress-studs that I wore to the Costume Institute Gala for the “Schiaparelli & Prada: Impossible Conversations,” in 2012.
