We Asked Our Editors Which Pieces of Jewelry They Never Take Off

Sure, accessories are meant to be swapped in and out, but what about those pieces of jewelry that never leave your body? We call it ‘everyday jewelry’ here at Vogue—a silver or gold little something that finishes off just about every one of our outfits. Whether it’s a sentimental necklace to remind us of our loved ones or a playful ring that brings joy to our days, these tried-and-true jewels are the backbone of our wardrobes.

Some of the beloved trinkets are so delightful my colleagues actually rarely leave the house without them. That’s totally understandable, given the versatility of classic jewelry—it pairs well with nearly anything, from jeans and a T-shirt to celebration-worthy dresses. Ahead, you’ll get a closer look at the everyday jewelry essentials Vogue editors love.

Two things to know about me: I wear a lot of rings and I have a lot of ear piercings. So on any given day, I’ll be wearing a minimum of that. In addition to a few rings my Grandmother gave me, my usuals are Miansai’s monogrammed signet ring (my brother and I have matching) and Agmes silver stacking rings. I also leave in little huggie hoops at all times.

I can’t stop wearing Baroque pearls. A Baroque pearl necklace, single wobbly-shaped pearl drops, and these double pearl earrings from Sophie Bille Brahe. They feel classic (I’m not one to dabble in trends) but also, quite fresh and modern.

Of all my cherished jewelry bits, one I literally can’t take off is my dainty Catbird bracelet that I got zapped on at its Soho welding annex. The simple, twisted chain is incredibly lightweight, meaning I often forget I’m wearing it and can easily pair it with other pieces. On necklaces, I find myself reaching for two daily. Perhaps a nod to my sorority, I developed quite a penchant for pearl adornments like Rellery’s chain link choker that always adds a chic touch to any outfit. Otherwise, Missoma’s chain is my timeless go-to. Lastly, how adorable is Amyo’s tiny ring etched with my initial?

I love minimalist gold jewelry, and my favorite ones as of late are from Laura Lombardi. She makes timeless pieces that still pack a statement, without being too over-the-top to wear every day. I  received this necklace as a birthday gift, and I can’t stop wearing it! Plus, I’m a big fan of chunky gold earrings and I’ve been wearing these Missoma hoops for years, they go with everything!

Marlo Laz makes beautiful, modern heirloom pieces that are the perfect gift to mark a significant occasion. These initial pendants are simple enough for everyday wear, but the delicate detail is exquisite. This is the sort of jewelry I put on and never take off.

I appreciate pieces that are simple enough to wear with everything, but also have a beautiful twist that makes them interesting and special. That’s why I’m currently wearing my Mateo necklace non-stop (it has my initial) as well as Sophie Bille Brahe’s chunky hoop earrings.

I got this single Simone Rocha earring in my fiancé’s initial and I love it. It’s a subtle sentimental piece of jewelry and—crucial for earrings—really lightweight.  I also have some Agmes earrings, similar to this Patrice style, close by on my desk to throw on for any Zoom to spice up any item. They’re deceptively lightweight and make any outfit that much more interesting.

I consider “everyday jewels” as the jewelry I never take off. I wear at least two necklaces layered night and day, sun or snow—one with my daughters’ initials on it; the other, a strand of sapphire beads with my name in opals. For earrings, I have two piercings in one lobe, and three in the other. I keep stud earrings and very small huggie hoops in the second and third piercings and switch out my first piercings more often. All earrings are simple as I wear a lot of jewelry, so these pieces can’t fight for attention. For rings, the only thing I wear absolutely every day without fail is my wedding band, a thread-thin pavé diamond ring.

I’m usually an earring girl, but lately, all I’ve been wearing are rings. I don’t ever leave the house without my Initial ring from Mateo and my smiley ring from Vitaly. Nothing like a bit of sparkle to start your day!

Growing up, I was such an earrings girl—I got a new piercing at least once a year, and I’d always mix and match pieces to go with my outfits. As of recent, though, I’ve come to realize that a good pair of statement gold earrings have been my go-to; these Orbit Hoops from Astrid & Miyu have dressed up my casual outfits, yet look great when I wear them to work paired with a necklace.

And I can’t forget all my favorite rings! When I was in Ireland in 2019, I got my Claddagh ring in Claddagh and haven’t taken it off since. It symbolizes love and friendship, and is still an effortlessly chic piece that I’ll wear forever.

I never take off my Eva Fehren X ring or my Cartier Trinity ring. They’re lightweight, and I don’t notice I have them on; plus, they look great together.

I have been wearing my dear friend Marie-Helene de Taillac’s jewelry for years now—or at least until a burglary divested me of it a couple of years ago—because a) It always reminds me of her, and b) It always reminds me of India, a country for which I have a deep passion.

Over the years, she made me such pieces as an amazing set of rose quartz lip-shaped cufflinks and dress-studs that I wore to the Costume Institute Gala for the “Schiaparelli & Prada: Impossible Conversations,” in 2012. For more everyday jewelry, I loved the swivel ring, which was made for me with an amethyst stone at the center—mauve is my color, you know!
