It’s safe to say that Usher is one of the greatest performers of all time. Just ask anyone who’s trekked to Sin City to experience his Las Vegas residency firsthand. During his sold-out show, the R&B star takes the stage to perform his greatest hits with unmatched energy. It can be hard to remember that the Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and dancer is 44—he certainly doesn’t look it. Luckily for us, Usher is finally sharing his best-kept beauty secrets. Because he looks good, and he knows it. “Can I say I’m vain?” he poses. “Yeah, because I care about myself, I care about my skin, I care about how I look. This thing I’m preserving [is] for you, you know, for our entertainment.”
Usher’s daily routine begins with two things: a gardenia-scented candle and a warm washcloth. “I learned this technique by not having access to any of this shit, to be honest,” he admits, massaging the washcloth across his face. “A hot rag will get you a long way, but you do have to be very careful of what you put on your skin.” After a few spritzes of hand sanitizer, he dives right into skin care with a foaming cleanser. “Now I went through a great deal of really, really bad acne as a kid—I mean, my face broke out so bad, so I had to find something that was simple enough to be able to keep up.” Mario Badescu’s cult-favorite rose water spray is next, followed by 24-karat gold under-eye patches.
“This whole purpose and point of taking a moment for you—some people choose to meditate, some people choose to say a prayer—whatever it is, you gotta take care of you in order to be able to take care of anybody else,” he says moments before layering on a toner, vitamin C serum, and gel moisturizer by Acne Expert Skincare. His regimen is made even more meditative by applying his chosen elixirs with a brush. “It just makes me feel like I’m in a spa.” Finally, with Caudalie’s face mist, a lip balm duo, and a touch of Chanel hand cream, he’s ready to hit the stage. “Love y’all,” he says. “Hope to see y’all soon here in Vegas.
