“This is my first five-wicket haul with you as my captain, it’s been a pleasure actually. I have had a lot of meaningful conversations, I have enjoyed having those discussions in the middle. I look forward to contributing more for you as a player both as a bowler and a batter,” Ashwin told Rohit.
“The expectations and a lot of things have changed over the years. However, I feel I’m at ease with my game and enjoying my game completely. The pressure is gone, I’m really relaxed and really enjoyed playing underneath you. Look forward to having more success along with you,” Ashwin further added.
The conversation started between the two players with Ashwin lauding Rohit’s efforts of becoming only the fourth captain to score centuries across formats. Faf du Plessis, Babar Azam and Tillakaratne Dilshan are the skippers to have achieved the feat.
“Feels really good, I just got to know that this is the feat that I have achieved. It’s always nice when you can add all these milestones,” Rohit said when asked to describe his feeling by Ashwin.
Rohit scored a century on a pitch where no Australian batter put any fight and he said one should not worry how the pitch behaves.
“When I said old school cricket that means you have to come forward, try and trust your defence, not worry about what the pitch is gonna do. You just got to come to play the ball and worry about the rest later and that is what I was thinking.”
Rohit also heaped praise on Jadeja‘s all-round performance that fetched him man of the match award on his return to international cricket after five months.
“He is coming back after 5-6 months and for him to come back in the way he did it’s a good sign for us, he is a massive player for us. He really improved a lot as a cricketer. I know he could always bowl but what I’m seeing in him the way he is batting these days is more pleasing to me.”
