Watch: Falcons WR Mack Hollins erupts on Desmond Ridder after miscue
Not much went right for the Atlanta Falcons during Sunday’s 23-7 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium in London.
Cameras picked up a moment of frustration on a deflated Falcons sideline when receiver Mack Hollins went off on quarterback Desmond Ridder after under-throwing him on a route in which he had Jags cornerback Darious Williams beat that nearly resulted in an interception.
Prior to the play, Ridder had been intercepted twice, one of which was a pick-six that put the Falcons in a 17-0 hole. Hollins explained to reporters after the game that he was simply venting and there was no issue with Ridder.
“To play at a level that’s not at our standard is frustrating,” Hollins said after the game, via Fox 5 Atlanta. “I let that frustration out anytime it comes with me. It’s 2023, so that type of stuff is looked at as out of control or overly emotional. I play the game because I love it. I’ll compare it to family; if somebody was doing something wrong to your family and you spazzed out, are you looked at as some weirdo now? I’m going to hold our team to a high standard, and if that standard is not met, that’s something that I’ll do.”
Ridder finished with 191 yards passing with a touchdown and two interceptions. Hollins was targeted three times but did not catch a pass. It’s the first time he was held without a reception as a member of the Falcons and the first time he was without a catch since Week 5 of the 2022 season.
