Watch Chloë Grace Moretz Do Her Genius Tricks for Clump-Free Lashes and Strong-Hold Brows

From her skin-care routine to nurturing her mental health, Chloë Grace Moretz’s beauty and wellness rituals are rooted in intention. So, how does Moretz, who has been in the spotlight since she began acting at age six and is starring in Amazon’s new sci-fi series The Peripheral out October 21, keep stress and anxiety at bay? Mixed martial arts training, she shares enthusiastically. “I’ll do anything from Muay Thai to more recently I’m doing judo and taekwondo from my more Kick-Ass days,” she explains. “It made me feel really good to be able to hit the pads, learn combinations, and understand what I can do with my body.”

Over the course of her career, the 25-year-old star has applied the same dedication and determination to her skin-care routine, which has been through its fair share of trial and error. When an Accutane treatment targeting her acne proved unsuccessful, she found that recalibrating with more natural salves was the most beneficial for her skin. “Olive oil was one of the first things I integrated into my face [care] and my cystic acne started clearing up within probably three to four months,” says Moretz, who counts dryness as one of her top concerns. “What I found is that oil begets oil in a lot of ways, so when I started using olive oil it really made my skin type more neutral.”

To maintain a balanced complexion, Moretz emphasizes that consistency in skin care is key. “I have a whole nighttime beauty routine that no one is going to stand in the way of,” she says. Nowadays, the 25-year-old leans into advice from The Natural Face Bible, soothing products, and single-use biodegradable face towels rather than washcloths—all of which she reveals keep blemishes at bay beyond the rogue hormonal breakout. After applying serums and SK-II’s essence, it’s time for what she calls a “face training” session—massaging a rose quartz roller along her face and neck for lymphatic drainage. Then, eye cream (thanks to the instruction of her former The Guardian director, Emilio Estevez), moisturizer, and SPF leave her skin prepped for her off-duty beauty look.

Beginning with makeup, Moretz evens out her complexion using Danessa Myricks’s blurring powder as foundation followed by touches of Clé de Peau’s concealer stick. A warm blend of Merit’s Bronze Balm and Ilia’s multi-tasking blush provides a sheer wash of color before diving into brows. She relies on the back end of Anastasia Beverly Hills’s applicator wand and the blast of a hairdryer to laminate them into place before a few flicks of brow pencil. Next is barely-there eyeshadow and eyeliner courtesy of two Charlotte Tilbury palettes, enhanced by an eyelash curler. Even with a vast marketplace of beauty products at her fingertips, Moretz is admittedly still partial to drugstore products—citing Maybelline’s Great Lash (mixed with a drop of water to prevent clumpiness) as her mascara of choice. With a mist of setting spray and a dab of Aquaphor atop her lips, she takes her hair down and is ready to head out for a lunch with friends. “I hope you enjoy your day!” she says, bidding adieu with her unmistakable smile.
