Watch: Australia, West Indies give guard of honour to legends Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo

It was a momentous occasion for West Indies as Dwayne Bravo was bringing curtains on his illustrious international career and the ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle too was probably playing his last game for the men in maroon. It was a bittersweet evening for the Windies as Australia beat them comprehensively and spoiled their farewell but the two cricketers could be mighty proud of what they have done for themselves and cricket in the Caribbean.

Bravo had already announced that this would be his last game for the West Indies in international cricket and the star all-rounder has been a ‘champion’ player over the years not just in the Caribbean but around the world in all formats.

Bravo has 553 wickets in 512 T20s going with over 6600 runs shows he has been an absolute legend in the shortest format of the game. Bravo played 91 of those games for the West Indies and picked up 78 wickets and scored 1255 runs and won two T20 World Cups under Daren Sammy’s leadership in 2012 and 2016.

Bravo also played in 164 ODIs and 40 Test matches as well scoring 2968 and 2200 runs respectively while taking 199 and 86 wickets as well.

Bravo said that it was time to let the youngsters step in and take West Indies cricket forward but mentioned that he will continue to ply his trade in the franchise leagues till the time his body allows.

Gayle, on the other hand, is considered Bradman of T20 as he has staggering numbers in T20s to his name.

The 42-year old, a legend in the shortest format of the game has scored 14,321 runs in 453 matches, averaging 36.44 including 87 fifties and 22 centuries.

In international cricket, Gayle has played 78 T20I matches, scoring 1884 runs while amassing 10,480 runs in 301 one-day internationals, with a highest of 215, while in 103 Tests, he has scored 7,214 runs at an average of over 42 and a highest of 333.

After the match, both Australia and West Indies teams paid their respect to the legends giving them a guard of honour while applauding them and their contribution to the game.
