Warriors star Stephen Curry happy teammate Andrew Wiggins ‘handled responsibilities’ with COVID vaccine

As announced by head coach Steve Kerr on Sunday, Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins will be available for all 82 games after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Warriors’ starting forward was in danger of missing all 41 home games at San Francisco’s Chase Center due to the city’s vaccine mandate, but he and the team will avoid that possibility after Kerr revealed Wiggins got the shot.

Star teammate Stephen Curry weighed in on the topic on Monday at Warriors’ shootaround.

“Obviously, I think it’s great that he is going to be available,” Curry stated, according to San Francisco Chronicle’s Connor Letourneau.

“Whatever process he went through to get to that decision, he’ll be able to speak on that. We’re excited to have him. I think that was a whole conversation, to begin with. It’s a good sign of just handling his responsibilities as a member of the team. Again, whatever the process was is for him to kind of explain.”

At Warriors Media Day, Wiggins stated he wasn’t planning on getting the vaccine. Had he not been fully vaccinated by Oct. 13, Wiggins would not have been able to attend practices or games inside Chase Center. As a result, he would have had to forfeit half of his season’s salary as part of the NBA’s announcement that players who had to miss games for being unvaccinated would not be paid their game checks.

Wiggins will now be clear for all of the Warriors’ games, returning to his spot in the starting lineup. In his first full season with Golden State, Wiggins averaged 18.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.0 blocks over 71 games.
