Warriors rumors: Draymond Green contract desires revealed
Draymond Green is reportedly looking for a three-year contract extension from the Warriors with an eye on matching up years with Stephen Curry.
According to Jason Domas of Bleacher Report, Draymond Green is seeking a three-year deal if he re-signs with the Warriors.
This potential contract would match him up with Stephen Curry’s contract going forward and keep him with the Warriors.
The Splash brother is only getting older and will most likely not be an All-NBA player when his contract is expiring. The Rockets could be a team that offers Draymond Green a full max deal over the next five years due to the fact that Houston is very desperate to compete and not tank anymore.
Draymond Green contract desires: Stephen Curry is key
If Green does end up staying as a Warrior, he will be on three-year deal that is close to a max contract. If he ends up on another team, he will be looking for a longer max.
But in Golden State, he wants to stay as long as Stephen Curry is on the roster. Green doesn’t want to stay after the first timeline is over and the future of the team is in flux. At that point, he would be 37 and would be near the end of his career.
It isn’t really fair to speculate that far in the future. Still, at this point, it seems like Curry will be the reason Green stays, not the Warriors’ upper management which has preferred the future over the present at times.
It also seems like a max contract for three years is more achievable for the Warriors. With his age, they will most likely not be offering a full five-year max contract. As an aging veteran, he will have to go somewhere else for that.
