Businesses and parents in the UK have been warned about a trend called “beaning” after it was brought to the attention of local police.
A gang of youths have run into trouble with police but not for crimes one might typically expect from delinquent teens.
The group have been busted partaking in a new trend called “beaning” which refers to baked beans from a can being tossed over properties, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
Police in Leeds, in the northern English county of Yorkshire, have issued a warning to business owners in the area after being alerted to the disruptive craze.
“It has come to the attention of the police that a new trend has started by groups of youths called ‘beaning’,” Morley Police Community Support Officer Michelle Owens said.
“This involves youths throwing the contents of a can of beans over properties, very similar to the trend of throwing eggs at properties.”
Ms Owens warned local shop owners to be aware of young people purchasing excessive quantities of beans.
“If you work in a shop, please can you be aware of youths buying large quantities of cans of beans,” she said.
She also told parents of youths to keep an eye out for cans of beans that went missing from the pantry.
“If you have children living at home, please be mindful if you see them removing cans of beans from the family home.”
The story received a hilarious reaction after it was shared to Twitter, with a few citizen comedians leaping at the opportunity to make a pun.
“Do ketch-up. This heinz been going on for years,” one person joked.
“Beans means fines?” another added, paying reference to the tagline, “beans mean Heinz”.
Someone else simply said police should “Heinz cuff them”.
