Want Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s response, asks son whose mother was burnt alive
According to Ibomcha, armed militants attacked their village early in the morning from multiple directions. Due to her age, his mother was unable to flee and insisted that the rest of the family run to safety. Upon their return, they tragically discovered her burnt body, locked inside the house set ablaze by the assailants.
As a former vice president of Manipur Peoples Party, Ibomcha is resolute in his pursuit of justice for his mother’s horrifying death and has appealed to the Prime Minister for attention to this grave matter. Expressing concern over the safety and security of the people in their own land, he questioned, “What will our PM say about my mother who was burnt alive in her home?”
During the attack, Ibomcha’s nephew attempted to rescue his grandmother but was shot in the process and is currently receiving treatment at RIMS hospital in Imphal. In response, state forces confronted the militants, resulting in the death of one “miscreant” in Serou Bazar.
Ibomcha’s late father, Sorkhaibam Churachan Meitei, had a remarkable history of contributions to India’s freedom struggle. As a tribute to his dedication and bravery, he was honored with the prestigious Tamra Patra for his significant role in the “No Tax” movement in Sylhet from 1931 to 1932 and his crucial involvement in the Quit India movement in 1942.
Amidst these tragic events, Ibomcha raises important questions about the protection of indigenous people in Manipur and calls for adequate security forces to ensure the safety of the Meitei community in their own land.
