Vogue Club Members Enjoy a Private Screening of “V”
Tribeca’s Roxy Hotel boasted a particularly chic crowd on Wednesday evening, as members of Vogue’s newest global membership, Vogue Club, gathered for an exclusive screening of V—the short film, directed by Chloe and Mahfuz Sultan and produced by Vogue, which honors the late Virgil Abloh’s prolific career.
Sipping champagne by the hotel’s iconic Oyster Bar before and after the screening, Vogue Club members had the opportunity to connect IRL with fellow fashion enthusiasts amidst a festive atmosphere which featured Abloh’s favorite white cotton and peony flowers, arranged by Met Gala florist Raul Avila. As for the fits: They ranged from an oxford shirt, tie, and bubblegum-pink-braids combination to a sleek look in a dark-wash-denim strapless midi dress with stark white high heels. Blazers also proved to be a fool-proof choice, whether paired daringly with a bra top and shorts or more casually with ripped jeans and baseball hat (or even as part of a dapper suit replete with knickerbocker-length trousers).
Downstairs in the Roxy Cinema, an archival DJ set of Abloh’s played in the background before the film. As for the main event: V was shot over the course of two days during Paris Fashion Week in February of this year. Vogue’s creative editorial director, Mark Guiducci, who introduced the first screening, spoke of the film as one stuffed full of remembrances of the late designer, who died of cancer late last year, as told by those who knew him best. “You’ll see the kinds of people who turned out to pay tribute to him, the intimacy which people spoke about him, and the time they gave us during a hectic moment in everyone’s career,” Guiducci told the crowd. “It’s a testament to him. It’s somber, but it’s also celebratory and made with love.”
The second screening was introduced by Vogue’s Director of Events, Jessie Nichols. “As you hear the stories from Virgil’s close friends and family,” she said, “You’ll see how he’s impacted all of us. I think everyone here has been affected in some way. He has touched everyone in the fashion community.”
