Virat Kohli makes BIG statement over Rahul Dravid taking up Team India coach role
Team India skipper Virat Kohli on Saturday (October 16) said that he has no idea over what is happening when it comes to the appointment of former India batter Rahul Dravid as next head coach of Team India. Kohli said he is yet to meet senior BCCI officials over Dravid’s appointment as a replacement for incumbent head coach Ravi Shastri.
Kohli made the comments after several reports claimed that Dravid is set to take over as new head coach of Team India. According to reports, Dravid recently met BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah and during the meeting Ganguly and Shah managed to convince Dravid to become the next head coach of Team India.
Reports claimed thay the BCCI has handed a 2-year contract to Dravid that will remain in place till 2023 World Cup. It is to be noted that Shastri’s tenure as Team India head coach will end after upcoming T20 World Cup in UAE.
“No idea exactly what’s happening on that front. No detailed discussion with anyone yet,” Kohli said when asked about Dravid’s potential appointment.
Kohli made the comments during a captains’ media session ahead of the T20 World Cup.
Dravid, 48, has been coaching the national ‘A’ and U-19 set-up for the past six years. Dravid deserves credit for grooming several youngsters including Rishabh Pant, Avesh Khan, Prithvi Shaw, Hanuma Vihari, and Shubman Gill. He currently heads the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
