Viral TikTok post shows the size of an epidural needle! Moms are freaking out – Times of India

The entire birthing process is a tough one but modern medicine has tried to ease it a bit. A majority of pregnant women opt for epidurals or spinal anesthesia. If you have been through the process, you very well remember how the doctor asks you to keep your spine erect so the epidural can be given straight into the spine…

A clip shared by a medical student from Miami is being extensively shared by moms worldwide who have taken the help of epidural. The post shows the size of an epidural needle and it’s HUGE!

The role of the needle is to lead the catheter deep into the lower back so the pain medication can be administered. Local anesthesia is given before this needle is inserted so the woman feels as little pain as possible when this big needle penetrates the skin.

According to the medical student, “Epidural needles are long so that we get better access to the epidural space. The most common question is, ‘Does it go all the way in?’ And the answer [in] most cases is no, but again, it varies from patient to patient.”

Mothers worldwide are shocked at the size of the needle and others are accolading mothers for bearing that level of pain and interventions to bring a baby to the world! This video just shows a small part of the whole birthing process and the pain and difficulties that a mom goes through during and after giving birth.
