Viral Now: Vegan Family Asks Neighbours To Shut Window While Cooking Meat

The tastes and food preferences of people all over the world are rapidly evolving. Conventional meats are now passe as mock meats and vegan alternatives are coming up in the market. The benefits of plant-based and vegan diets are being recognised by consumers, not just for their health but also the environment at large. Recently, an online controversy erupted in Australia around a family following a vegan diet. The family wrote a letter complaining to their neighbours who cooked meat, and the letter has drawn strong reactions online.
The family was based in the northern suburbs of Burns Beach in Perth, Australia. The letter was shared online in the Public group ‘Hey Perth’ on Facebook. It soon went viral, grabbing eyeballs and reactions by the thousands but was later deleted by the page.

The handwritten letter by the vegan family was delivered in an envelope that read “Important Message” and “Please take seriously” on the cover. “Hello, neighbour. Could you please shut your side window when cooking, please? My family are vegan (we eat only plant-based food), and the smell of the meat you cook makes us feel sick and upset,” they wrote. “We would appreciate your understanding. Sarah, Wayne, and ‘the kids’,” concluded the note.
A number of users reacted to the letter by the vegan family. Internet users remained divided about the family and their request to close the window while cooking meat. “They should move out if they don’t like the smell of meats,” said one user, as per Mirror. Some others felt that the request was justified and not a tough one to follow. “Why all the nasty comments? I’m a meat eater, but she was polite and respectful in her request and it’s not hard to close a window,” wrote another user.
