Manly star Tom Trbojevic couldn’t help himself from snickering during an unfortunate slip of the tongue during the 2021 Dally M Awards on Monday night.
Crowned the best player in the NRL at the glitzy Brisbane gala event, Trbojevic has been overshadowed in some ways by a hilarious gaffe that has turned his teammate Josh Aloiai into a trending topic on social media.

The moment NRL supremo Peter V’landys appeared to have a bad moment while reading off a teleprompter during the live broadcast on Fox League had Trbojevic giggling and it soon had rugby league fans all over social media cracking gags.
The Manly fullback was seen trying to suppress a smile as the cameras focused on him following the mispronunciation.
Australian Rugby League Commission boss V’landys was reading out the final two rounds of voting for the Dally M Player of the Year award when he came unstuck reading out the Manly forward’s name.
His brief pause before reading out the name “Oshay Olay” for receiving votes created a monster.
The term “Oshay Olay” was soon trending on Twitter as every jester in the game had their laugh.
The barrage of tweets included some impressive photoshop jobs that seem certain to make Aloiai’s “Oshay Olay” nickname stick for good.
Trbojevic had to straighten up quick smart when he was announced as the Dally M Player of the Year just a few minutes later.
I’ll start off by saying what an honour it is to win this award,” Trbojevic said in his award speech. “I was just reading the past winners and to be recognised among that list is pretty special. I don’t think it will ever sink in.
“I’ll start my thank you’s to the NRL and Queensland government, what they’ve done for the past three months has been incredible. To the Manly boys, Dessie (Hasler) and Chez (Daly Cherry-Evans), I couldn’t have done it without you. This medal is a beneficiary for all your hard work and effort.
“To the family back home, mum and dad, you know how much I love and miss you. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me over the years and this medal’s on the back of everything you’ve done for me and without you two, I wouldn’t be getting it. So big thank you.”
There was earlier some highs and lows as the biggest stars of the game and their partners walked the red carpet on their way into the black tie event.
