Vidya Balan says it’s ridiculous that Alia Bhatt didn’t get enough credit for ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ which Sanjay Leela Bhansali got – Times of India

Women-centric movies have seen a rise over the years and various stereotypes have been broken in the last few years. Having said that, there are still certain old notions attached to it. Vidya Balan is sort of known as the flag-bearer of female-driven films which did phenomenal at the box-office with films like ‘The Dirty Picture’ and ‘Kahaani’.
The actress is always known to speak her heart and recently, in an interview with Film Companion, Vidya opened about the gender disparity again. Vidya said that Alia Bhatt wasn’t praised after the success of ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ the way majority of male actors are praised, when they deliver a hit. On the other hand, heaps of praises were showered on Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Vidya added that it’s ridiculous that when a woman’s film does well, the director gets all the credit.

Vidya also expressed that women worked so hard to get the standing which they have today. It’s really bad that just because men’s films aren’t working, they say that female films will not work further more. It’s not true because ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ did better than most male-driven films this year.
The actress who was last seen in ‘Jalsa’ with Shefali Shah. The actress will be seen next in a project with Ileana D’cruz, Pratik Gandhi and Sendhil Ramamurthy.
