Vice President urges entrepreneurs, govts to focus on ways that create happiness

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday called on entrepreneurs and governments to focus on innovating in ways that create happiness among people of all sections of society and for the betterment of the world.

“The basic philosophy of India is to share and care, so we should really share knowledge, experiences and come out with new ideas and innovations. Everything should be for the happiness of people, ultimately that should be the goal,” Naidu said while delivering his inaugural address at the 24th edition of the Bengaluru Tech Summit.

He added that innovation was needed for creation of knowledge, wealth and asked the attendees of the Bengaluru Tech Summit to come up with ideas that bring about a change in the lives of people from all sections of society, including for India’s farmers through technological interventions in agriculture.

The inauguration of the three-day summit was also attended virtually by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, who spoke on ways in which India and their respective countries are collaborating on developing high tech solutions to solve both civil and military challenges.

“Our vision of the world understands the potential of technology to respond to the challenges of our time. We have witnessed this so powerfully in the last 18 months, with medical breakthroughs now allowing us to plan a world after this pandemic. That same capacity to innovate will be at the fore of addressing climate change and transitioning to a new energy economy,” Morrison said.

He also announced two new initiatives under the Australia-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to enhance engagement from cyberspace to outer space. This would include setting up of a centre of excellence for Critical and Emerging Technology Policy in India and a new Consulate General in Bengaluru to expand diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Bennett said that India and Israel were complementary to each other as one is among the world’s biggest countries and economies with vast digital expertise, while Israel is a leading innovation nation.

“Technology doesn’t just have the power to help lives, but also save lives. If we put our minds together and join forces, the opportunities are endless. When Indians and Israelis come together, amazing things happen,” Bennett said.

Apart from the high-powered international delegates, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, the state’s IT/BT Minister Ashwat Narayan, Governor of Karnataka Thawar Chand Gehlot also attended the event, setting the stage to kick off what has become one of the largest tech summits of the region in the last few years.

“There was a time that Bengaluru was the name on peoples minds when Karnataka was spoken of. Now things are slowly changing. Emerging technology cities like Hubli-Dharwad, Mangaluru, Mysuru are now spoken of as growing hubs and several industry bodies are setting up operations here as well,” Bommai said.

“I strongly believe that with the right mix of talent, industry mentorship and government support, we, as a State, are poised for larger and faster growth and to continue reaching global heights,” the Karnataka Chief Minister added.
