Vedanta Group appoints Y J Chen as chief of display business

The Vedanta Group has appointed Y J Chen as the chief executive officer of its display business, the company said in a release on Wednesday.

Chen, who has held senior positions at Innolux, Xiamen and GIP over a career spanning 23 years, joins the Vedanta group from Chinese display company HKC Corp, where he was the executive vice president.

“He brings with him valuable technical expertise, deep understanding and experience of building and operating display fabs, and incredible business acumen. We are confident of his ability to lead our display business which will help develop a sustainable electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India,” Vedanta Group chairman Anil Agarwal said.

The company plans to set up an integrated glass and display manufacturing facility in Gujarat.

Chen is the latest addition to the company’s armoury of senior expatriate executives being hired to run its proposed semiconductor and display fabrication units.

Apart from him, the company has also hired semiconductor industry veteran David Reed as the chief executive officer of its semiconductor business. Reed, who was with NXP Semiconductors as its executive vice president and global head of operations, has also served as a vice president and general manager at GlobalFoundries.

Reed began his career at Texas Instruments in 1984, where he served for 26 years in a variety of global leadership roles. He received his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from Texas A&M University and an MBA from the University of Dallas.
