Varun Dhawan indirectly talks about the ‘Bhagwad Gita’ scene in Oppenheimer: ‘Where does the criticism go then’ | Hindi Movie News – Times of India
In a recent interview, Varun has reacted to this criticism.
The actor said in a chat with Pinkvilla, that he isn’t new to criticism. His films ‘Judwaa’, ‘Main Tera Hero’, ‘ABCD 2’ have been criticised which is totally cool. The actor added that he respects criticism, however, what he doesn’t understand is that the criticism is coming despite the fact that his character isn’t really shown as a hero. He is someone from Lucknow and his character is a tone-dead character. The character is shown in a negative light only and not the hero. Hence, Janhvi’s character explains to him in a language that he would understand perhaps.
Varun further added that while he respects criticism, he doesn’t understand where does this criticism, sensitivity or trigger go when it comes to English films. Indirectly referring to the Bhagwad Gita scene in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer‘, Varun said that he knows many people who felt triggered after watching that small scene from a recently released film, but it’s a scene which is very important to our country and culture. However, that’s okay for some people. Where does the criticism go that time, questioned Varun. He further confessed that with them, people want to get personal. He opined that one can’t have a different yardstick to measure every film or person. It should be the same for everyone.
