‘Varisu’ vs ‘Thunivu’ box office collection day 15: Vijay and Ajith starrer sees a dip after ‘Pathaan’ release! – Times of India

The two major films of Kollywood this year, ‘Varisu’ and ‘Thunivu’ were released in theatres on January 11. Both the films have entered the Rs 200 crore club and after 15 days of release, the films are seeing a small dip in the box office. On January 25, Vijay starrer ‘Varisu’ made a box office collection of Rs 1.35 crore, and Ajith starrer ‘Thunivu’ made a box office collection of Rs 1.02 crore reportedly.

According to trade experts, the release of the Bollywood film ‘Pathaan’ in Tamil Nadu in Hindi and Tamil, has made the audience interested in a new movie release. With Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer getting more response in Tamil Nadu, the two Tamil films have started to plummet slowly.

Vijay’s ‘Varisu’ is a family emotion drama directed by Vamshi Paidipally. Rashmika Mandanna plays the female lead and the movie has till now made a gross of Rs 263 crore at the box office globally. The film is expected to run in theatres until February second, as the theatres are still running with houseful shows.
Ajith’s ‘Thunivu’ is a heist thriller directed by H Vinoth. Manju Warrier plays the female lead and the movie has totally made a gross of Rs 224 crore at the global box office and it is expected that it will earn more than Rs 50 crore at the box office before its final run.

Both films are set to make their digital premiere on OTT on February 10.
