‘Varisu’ box office collection day 13: Vijay’s family drama faces first working Monday; surpasses Rs. 270 crores – Times of India

Vijay and Ajith clashed at the box office after nine years with their respective movies ‘Varisu’ and ‘Thunivu’ as both the movies were released on the same day this year during Pongal. Interestingly, both the films were well-received by fans, and opened with positive reviews. After a series of Pongal holidays in the first week, Vijay’s family drama earned Rs 210 crores. Then the film received packed houses on the second weekend as it earned almost Rs 30 crores in two days.
On January 23, Vijay’s Pongal release faced a first working Monday and the family drama has managed to get a decent occupancy. Even though the film received below-average occupancy for morning and matinee shows, Vijay earned good numbers from the evening and night shows and it helped the film surpass Rs 270 crores worldwide at the end of day 13.

Despite the box office clash with Ajith’s ‘Thunivu’, Vijay’s ‘Varisu’ has easily breached the Rs.250 crore mark, and the emotional family drama has developed the actor’s box office territory as well.
Vijay plays the role of a stylish businessman taking charge of his father’s business, to satisfy the last wish of his father, who suffers from Pancreatic cancer. Rashmika Mandanna played the leading lady, while Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Jayasudha, Prabhu, Srikanth, Shaam, and Ganesh Venkatram appeared in important roles to add power to the film. Thaman scored the music, while the film’s cinematography is handled by Karthik K Palani.
