‘Uunchai’ scores 25% occupancy on day 1, ‘Black Panther – Wakanda Forever’ eyes Rs 13 crore opening figure – Times of India

Sooraj Barjatya directed ‘Uunchai’, featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Danny Denzongpa, Parineeti Chopra, Neena Gupta and Sarika in lead roles, is off to a positive start at the box office. The film had a restricted release and managed to woo a select audience. Early estimate suggests that ‘Uunchai’ has recorded 20-25% occupancy.

‘Uunchai’ is a friendship drama and released in less that 500 screens across the country. Going by the day one trend, the film is expected to earn around Rs 1.50 crore nett on its opening day. This is a decent score for a movie which has very few shows. Speaking about collaborating with Big B, the director had shared, “I realised that sir is the easiest actor to work with. I enjoyed working with him on the sets but I enjoyed (his company) more in his vanity van. Because he would talk about life, poetry, filmmaking, he teaches us but on sets, he only listens and that’s the greatest thing.”

At the box office, ‘Uunchai’ had to battle it out with Hollywood biggie ‘Black Panther – Wakanda Forever’, which has gained around 40% occupancy on day one. The film is expected to rake in around Rs 13-15 crore nett on its opening day. ‘Black Panther – Wakanda Forever’ has kick started on a positive note in the South markets too, which could contribute Rs 5 crore nett to the film’s total on day one.
